DeMarc A. Hickson, Ph.D

Executive Director

Executive Director

has nearly 20 years of public health experience, having worked with federal, academic and non-profit agencies. As an alum of Norfolk State University with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathematics and PhD-level Biostatistician, he has completed a variety of certifications and trainings, including the HPTN and MACC Scholars Programs. Dr. Hickson is an avid "urban farmer" and traveler - he takes a trip every year with his sister.

Dianne Murphy

Intake Specialist

is a Norfolk native with over 20 years of Administrative experience in the prevention field. From administrative assistance to being a certified HIV tester, Ms. Murphy enjoys ensuring members of the community have quality access to HIV prevention and care programs. Ms. Murphy has a passion for cooking and sharing this passion with others. Ms. Murphy believes, like her work, the sharing of her passion heals the soul.  


Antonio Burt

Quality Assurance Manager

has over 18 years of experience in the field of Public Health. He holds several certifications such as HIV/STI Counseling and Testing, Community Health Care, Adolescent Art Therapy, Biomedical Interventions, Couples Counseling, Linkages and Retention to Medical Care and Medical Adherence. Antonio has many years of experience in managing various aspects of HIV, STI, and HCV programs and research studies. He has a passion for addressing the medical and mental needs of marginalized populations, ensuring each person receives the highest quality of service.

Charles Brown, DHA, APRN

Nurse Practitioner

has 36 years of experience in healthcare, 24 years in nursing, and 12 years as a nurse practitioner specializing in Oncology, Geriatrics and Family Medicine. He likes to cook, loves soul food and enjoys Spanish Cuisine. Mr. Brown is also into jazz, old school R&B, NFL and biking. He's currently working on his certification as a specialist from the American Academy HIV Medicine (AAHIVM) .

Herman Williams

Program Manager

has been working in the field of HIV Prevention, community engagement and over all Public Health for over 9 years and currently serves in the capacity as Senior Case Manager at Us Helping Us where he uses his fluid skill set to engage clients through assessments and other tools in order to provide connections to supportive social services throughout the greater Metropolitan area.

Jamal Hawkins

Senior Community Health Worker

is a graduate of the Black AIDS Institute Community Mobilization College with over 10 years of experience in the public health field. Previously working for agencies such as the AIDS Healthcare Foundation and the Community Education Group, Jamal acquired numerous certifications including phlebotomy, individual and couples counseling, ARTAS and several more. Jamal is a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan who loves to play and watch football.

Antoine Pollard

PrEP Coordinator

has 8 years of experience in the field of outreaching and promotions with his event planning team which has helped him develop his skills to become a Community Health Worker and be able to get out and engage with the community. I have certifications in INSTI HIV Testing, Alere Determine HIV Testing, and currently in the process to obtain his Phlebotomy certification. Antoine loves to read urban novels and listen to R&b music during his spare time.

has over 7 years of customer/client service experience. And throughout his tenure, has significantly enhanced his retention and overall client satisfaction rating. Kevin is a personal trainer and aspiring dance teacher. He attended Bowie State and George Mason University, as well as the National Academy of Sports Medicine.

Senior Community Health Worker

has 9 years of experience in the field HIV prevention. In 2018, he joined the Us Helping Us team as a Community Health Worker obtaining certifications in testing with the Insti HIV1/HIV2 and Alere Determine HIV1/2 Ag/Ab. 

Mario Gray

High Impact Prevention & Training Coordinator

has over 7 years of experience in advocacy and nonprofit work, with a focus on minority rights. He is a certified facilitator of multiple CDC approved Evidence-Based Interventions (EBI). He enjoys video games and writing, referring to himself as a nerd.

Mental Health & Therapy


Dr. Bryant K. Woodford earned his Doctor of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Eastern University in Philadelphia, PA.  Dr. Bryant’s doctoral studies emphasized clinical expertise in narrative therapy including training from the Vancouver School of Narrative Therapy in Vancouver, Canada.  While he is verse in several therapeutic modalities, the narrative therapeutic approach he utilizes targets marginalized persons as they seek to create a new and more promising personal narrative.  Dr. Bryant provides mental health services to groups, couples, families, and individuals. 

Dr. Bryant also earned a Master of Divinity degree from Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA.  Dr. Bryant has worked intentionally to integrate his theological and psychological training to help clients address both their spiritual and mental health needs.  His integration of theology and psychology also lends itself to assisting queer clients with reconciling their spirituality with their sexuality. 

Dr. Bryant is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) in Washington, DC and is a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT).  He is ordained clergy with The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries (TFAM).

Program Coordinator

has 4 years of experience in public health and has led a number of outreach strategies with Young Men who have sex with men at Us Helping Us. He has certifications in Anti-Retroviral Treatment and Access to Services, Couples HIV Testing and Counseling, Personalized Cognitive Counseling, Rapid HIV Testing, Mpowerment and Many Men, Many Voices. Darrell loves Maryland Crabs and is currently a Business Administration Major At The University of the District of Columbia.
