Established in 1985, Us Helping Us began as a group of volunteers that provided holistic health information for people living with AIDS. The strategy was to teach natural holistic techniques – involving the body, mind, and spirit – for health maintenance. As it exists today, Us Helping Us is an experienced CBO with two locations in the greater Washington, DC area, including a certified, freestanding mental health clinic, and works tirelessly to achieve health equity for underserved and marginalized populations in the greater Washington, DC area.
THE FIRST 10 YEARS
On October 5, 1988, Us Helping Us registered as a nonprofit corporation in the District of Columbia. The incorporators included: Bishop Rainey Cheeks, Prem Deben (deceased), Aundrea Scott (deceased) and Howard Morris (deceased).
THE SECOND 10 YEARS
Us Helping Us continued to see massive growth and expansion in its programs and focus populations as well as diversification in its funding and in solidifying its stronghold as the premiere ASO in the nation.
THE THIRD 10 YEARS
During the third ten years, Us Helping Us focused on expanding its programs and services, strengthening its program infrastructure, and participating in academic research studies.
